Established in 1854, Woodstock School is a Christian, international,
residential school for boys and girls from grades K-12. It offers
a college preparatory programme leading to an American high school
diploma, the Advanced Placement examinations, and Cambridge University
IGCSE examinations. An extensive performing arts department, modern
computer and video labs, an intensive ESL program for grades 5-8
and challenging community service and outdoor education opportunities
autment the academic program. The priority at Woodstock School is
to produce academically prepared students who possess an understanding
of the beliefs and values of the Christian faith and an appreciation
of cultural differences and global diversity.
Woodstock School's 260-acre campus is located in a protected forest
on the outskirts of Mussoorie, a historic hill station in the first
range of the Himalayas. Mussoorie is 285 kilometres (178 miles)
north of Delhi and is 32 km (23 miles) above Dehra Dunn which is
accessible by train, bus or taxi. From the school campus there are
magnificent views of the Doon Valley to the south and of the snow
covered Himalayan range to the north.
Woodstock is India's oldest international school and the first
US-accredited school in Asia. Established in 1854, Woodstock has
recently celebrated the 150th anniversary of its foundation and
is now preparing for the 50th anniversary of Middle States accreditation
in 2009.
Woodstock is a co-educational boarding school for 500 students from
pre-K - 12, from over 20 countries. The school is intentionally
diverse, in terms of its student and staff and in its programmes,
ethos and values. With a strong non-denominational Christian heritage,
Woodstock offers an inclusive, values-based, educational experience
for students from different countries, cultures, religions and belief-systems.
The school seeks specifically to support the education of children
from families in Christian and public service through a substantial
student grants programme.
The international, college-preparatory curriculum is based on Cambridge
International Examinations (UK) and College Board 'Advanced Placement'
(US) programmes. As well as offering sixteen 'core' subjects, including
four sciences, to AP examination level, additional curricular options
include Studio Art, journalism, Yearbook, jazz improvisation, Indian
and US literature, and Hindi. There is a broad range of distinctive
music, outdoor education, sport, and other extra-curricular activities,
including orchestra, bands and Indian music. High School students
may participate in exchanges with schools in US and Australia. Woodstock's
ESL department provides a three-week Summer School and 'pull-out'
and in-class support, and there is a Learning Assistance programme
for students with mild learning difficulties. Students are prepared
for higher education in USA, Canada, UK, India, Australia, Korea
and Japan, amongst other university destinations. In addition to
MSA accreditation, Woodstock is recognized by the Association of
Indian Universities and offers an Indian Mark-Sheet.
Woodstock School has an outstanding location on nearly 300 acres
of protected forest at 7,000 feet on the south-facing slopes of
the Himalayan foothills 300 Km north of Delhi and accessible by
air, rail or car. Students are accommodated in separate-sex, age-based
residences, with between two and four students per room and an average
ratio of fifteen students to each residence staff member. The academic
programme is supported by two excellent libraries and an extensive
computer network, and by specialist accommodation for science, IT,
music, art and outdoor education.
