Bangalore International School is known as 'BIS' and traces its
history way back to 1969 where it began as an elementary school
with 17 students. Over the years the school has slowly and steadily
progressed with the motto 'Aspire, Innovate, Achieve, Excel'. Bangalore
International School focuses on each student as an individual and
works towards providing an environment that enhances overall development
with skills to 'think creatively, reason critically, and communicate
effectively'. It aims to inculcate sound values in students like
self-discipline, self-control, social sensitivity and responsibility.
Learning while having fun, positive thinking, responsibility towards
the community and the nation are some of the areas that are given
special attention. It has a Learning Centre to take care of special
needs children. By integrating such students in school, the school
aim provide an atmosphere of acceptance, tolerance, and helpfulness
among the students and leading to development of wholesome personalities
and responsible citizens. It has classes from Pre-Primary to Grade
12 and offers the IGCSE and GCE 'A'/'AS' Levels Courses for the
students. A wide range of subjects is offered to meet the requirements
of each student. Accredited to the University of Cambridge Local
Examinations Syndicate, the school is also a Cambridge International
Examinations Centre. The school holds Guidance Counselling Programmes
and encourages visits of representatives of worldwide universities
to interact with senior students. Regular workshops for students
and teachers are held to bring about social, emotional and physical
awareness, to tackle varied problems and keeping abreast with the
latest happenings is also encompassed in these workshops. Basketball,
soccer, table tennis, tennis, badminton, swimming, riding, Tae-kwon-do
and dance are some of the physical activities the school offered.
Within school hours, art, craft, home economics, carpentry, debate,
drama and elocution are some of the activities offered. Newpaper-in-Eduaction
(NIE) and Theatre-in-Education (TIE) are two programmes integrated
in the School curriculum. The school dormitory is located a short
distance away from the main school and provides a family atmosphere
with live-in Dorm Parents. The rooms are well furnished and equipped
to meet the requirements of the students. 'A home away from home',
the residential facility also offers co-curricular activities like
swimming, tennis and a gym.
